Reconcile equipment registers, 3D objects and data points without hiding missing bindings

Equal mapping counts do not prove that all equipment is correctly bound. Fix the expected asset scope and relationship rules, inspect differences in full, then verify spatial and field meaning.

Equal counts in an equipment register, a model and a point table do not prove correct binding. One missing device and one duplicate association can cancel out numerically. Reconciliation at scale needs an agreed expected-asset baseline, explicit relationship rules and a difference list that people can act on. Spatial position and field meaning still need verification beyond a headline matching percentage.

Fix the scope of each reconciliation run

Record the area, asset-baseline version, model version, point-list version and reconciliation time. New, retired, standby, appearance-only and temporarily unconnected objects need explicit categories. Do not remove an expected asset from the denominator after discovering it is missing. Conversely, not every decorative building node is a device awaiting a data binding.

Relationships are not always one-to-one. Equipment can have several measurements, a spatial object can represent a group, and a shared measurement may have a legitimate use. Define permitted cardinality and exception reasons before reporting duplicates. Mechanically enforcing one-to-one relationships can damage a valid business structure rather than improve quality.

Produce differences that can be assigned

DifferenceEvidenceResponsible review
Expected asset has no modelAsset scope and node inventoryModel or scope owner
Model has no valid assetNode identity and asset statusConfirm decoration, legacy content or a wrong identifier
Required measurement is unboundEquipment-type requirements and point listData owner supplies or explains it
Duplicate violates the ruleRelationship key and permitted cardinalitySeparate errors from approved sharing
Retired object still receives current stateRetirement time and live relationshipMaintenance owner confirms termination

Each difference needs an object identifier, category, evidence version, owner, handling state and review result. Saying “five items remain” is inadequate for handover and makes it difficult to determine whether the next run contains the same five problems or new ones.

Understand what database rules can protect

The PostgreSQL 16 constraints documentation explains uniqueness for columns or column groups and referential integrity through foreign keys. Preventing missing values also requires appropriate non-null constraints. Such mechanisms can protect recorded relationships, but they cannot identify an expected asset that was never entered into the dataset.

Compare the agreed baseline with the actual relationships explicitly. Even when every reference is valid, the temperature of Pump A can still be attached to Pump B. A database consistency check does not establish that the association makes sense physically. That requires comparison with the source field and the intended equipment.

Check rules in full and meaning in the scene

Automated checks can inspect identifiers, duplicates, empty fields, expired relationships and required measurements across the complete set. Position, equipment type and state interpretation need sample review or complete inspection for critical objects. Start from the register, locate the model, open the point detail and compare name, unit, source and actual location.

Sampling should cover different areas, equipment types, additions, replacements and repaired defects rather than only easy examples. Agree whether critical objects require complete inspection and how ordinary objects are sampled according to consequences and scope. An arbitrary universal percentage would not establish confidence for every project. Preserve the sampled identities so that the evidence can be reproduced.

Track new differences and evidence of closure

After a model replacement, equipment change, point adjustment or area expansion, rerun the same rules and separate new, persistent and resolved differences. Close an item with reviewed evidence rather than by deleting its row. Approved deferrals still need a scope, owner and condition for reassessment; otherwise an exception list can become a permanent hiding place for omissions.

This article establishes continuing reconciliation across the delivered population. For digital twin development services (Chinese), hand over the baseline, rules, difference results and one complete repair-and-recheck example. Later maintainers can then test coverage when equipment is added, instead of counting icons by eye again.
